Market Report: Back to School Edition 🛎️

Jan 27, 2026jaeger richmond

As the dingle-dangle of the school bell rings out, I’ve been on the blower all day trying to snap up a few late-week treats to make those lunchboxes tastier — and if possible, lead you toward abundance.

Because abundance = value.

So here goes, twinkle toes.

INFO ON WHATS HOT AND WHATS NOT

🍎 She Ain’t All Apples

I’ll be straight with you — it’s been a bit of a fizzer at the end of apple season.

Pinks are too exy, and a lot of crops finished early. If I were you, I’d give them a miss.
If you must persist, we’ve just scored some first-pick Blue Mountains fruit — Royal Galas.

But bang for buck?
I’d still give apples a swerve this week.

🍑 So… What Should You Swap the Lunchbox Staple For?

Fruits

  • Nectarines

  • Grapes

  • Donut Peaches

All sweet, all snacking-friendly, all punching above their weight right now.

Veg (aka the quiet achievers)

  • Sweet carrot bunches (snacking carrots)

  • Mini cucumbers

Crisp, easy, no complaints from the back seat.

🍓 Berry Alert 🚨

Strawberries are going to be diabolical after back-to-back 45°C days.

We’re hoping everyone’s okay out there, but the little strawbs will struggle for a couple of weeks, I reckon.
My advice? Give them a miss for now.

Instead, jump on:

  • Blueberries

  • Cherries

  • Extra grapes

Your wallet — and the farmers — will thank you.

🥩 Protein Play (Lunchbox Legend)

Handmade real sausage rolls — $1.50 a pop.

Honestly, you can’t go wrong.

That’s the state of play. Eat with the season, chase the value, and let nature do the heavy lifting.
