Hip, hip, hooray for the parents eagerly awaiting back-to-school day! We've been scouring high and low to find the best bounty for back-to-school lunchboxes—and we've stumbled upon a few doozies you can’t let run away!

As we set our sails into the last month of summer 😭, it’s time to make the most of a few of your faves. Yep, it’s the last pop of the cherry, and it’s time to let the Ken man-a-go! (Kensington Prides are wrapping up.) But don’t worry—we’ve found his little smooth cousin, “Silky.” He could work on his name, but his taste is putting the other varieties to shame. Definitely make the most of this small window from a single-origin farm!

Tassie has called it—the Taste Festival typically marks the final one to two weeks of cherry season, and yep, the farmers are nodding their heads: Aussie cherries are soon going to bed.

But don’t worry—there’s a tonne of other fruit to welcome into your box this week!

🍈 Rockmelon, yellow melon, watermelon—just get your hands on a melon… any melon!

🍑 Plums, plums, plums! Sugar plums, Queen Garnet, and Teagan Blue—all worth spending a penny or two. If I were you, I’d be jumping on Garnets if you love red flesh, and if you’ve got a sweet tooth, you cannot miss the sugar plums!

🍎 Top of the mountain, here comes the new season Fuji! Nope, not from the view of the Tokyo Hyatt… these beauties are from Sydney’s biggest mountain. Move over, Three Sisters—these guys have more blush than Lady Gaga! Juicy, sweet, and hands down the one to eat.

🍇 Other must-haves—nectarines, peaches, and you cannot miss the stunning grapes. My pick? New season crimsons—flavour, crunch… thanks, honeybunch!

💚 Want a bargain buy? Green grapes are the one—they’re in ABUNDANCE!

Land of Veg

🍅 Roma tomatoes—these guys are coming in perfect. Firm yet juicy and super sweet. Could be the best tomato I’ve eaten this year.

🍆 Eggplants—Look, we all know the saying it’s not all about size, and this week, that’s true for these guys. They’re on a ticket helping farmer Vince, as the fruit ripened smaller than usual, so he’s thrown them in as a deal. If I’m staring at five 🍆 on my kitchen bench, I’m thinking BBQ!

Here’s the move:

  1. Cut diagonal scores into these bad boys.
  2. Salt, pepper, olive oil—then onto the BBQ they go.
  3. Lid down to finish them off and ensure they cook right through.
  4. Glaze with either a sticky Asian marinade or a miso butter. 😛🍆
