Crumbs for Plums
February—officially coined by the Dimples team as Plumuary! With so many varieties in season, you’ll want to grab one of each.
Plum Varieties:
🍑 Crimson Blush – Yellow flesh with a mild, sweet, and tangy flavour.
🍑 Sugar Plums – Nature’s caramel! Think of a mild date flavour in a plum—a delicious treat instead of a slice of cake.
🍑 Queen Garnet – Big-bodied with a deep, delicious flavour.
🍑 Baby Blood – Milder than Queen Garnet, with red flesh.
Are You Avo-in’ a Good Day?
Ok, it’s that time—Hass avocados are disappearing quicker than Jack Flash, and you’re all wondering, what am I going to use on my avo smash?!
Well, never fear—more varieties are here! Let’s break it down:
🥑 Hass – The most common and loved variety. It’s easy to tell when it’s ripe as its skin turns dark purple/black.
🥑 Reed – My personal favourite! It gets a bad rap for its skin not changing colour and being rounder than most, but it’s incredibly nutty and creamy—definitely the pick of the moment.
🥑 Shepard – Green-skinned and just hitting the market. Many are rushed to stores too soon, meaning they don’t ripen properly and leave you with a rubbery avo! This gives Shepards a bad name. They’ve just arrived, so best to avoid them for a few weeks.
👉 If you must have Hass, we still have some small ones coming through. Otherwise, embrace the Reed—just give it a gentle squeeze at the top to check ripeness, then move it to the fridge, where it’ll last a week or two.
As the Seasons Go...
The influx of plums marks the middle of stone fruit season, so it’s time to activate your fruit ninja skills! Make sure ripe fruit is moved to the fridge, where it will last for up to a week.
We’ve also got some excellent nectarines and peaches coming through. My pick this week? Large white nectarines—WOW!
