Market Update 27th January 2025

New season Bilpin Apples have kicked off! Freshly picked each day from orchards within 50km of Sydney… Well, that’s a little special, right? So is the care you take with apples this time of year. It’s a must to keep them in the fridge. The thing is, with fresh apples, they are literally still picked with the warmth and energy of the sun… meaning they will continue to ripen from the core if they are not kept cold! Ain’t nobody like a floury apple.

As always, the first flower to go from bloom to fruit is the Royal Gala. It’s no secret my fave is a Pink Lady, but honestly, when comparing apples with apples, a new season Gala knocks the socks off an old season Pink. So jump on Galas this week—they are crisp, they are juicy, and if they aren’t in your order, you could be called a goose-y.

New Season Fruits - Fresh in Feb

Land of Veg

Some decent weather has Zucc’s growing in the blink of an eye—the $$ pick of the week!

Lunar New Year will kick off this week, which will push demand for Asian veg up. It’ll only be a minute before we see these guys falling from the sky like the moon at 6am.

Cucumbers had an irregular spike, with the muggy weather a week ago knocking some of the harvest back a few weeks. They should be ready to rock with good summer prices in a week or two. Mini cucumbers are the pick for the penny this week.

Tomatoes are on like Donkey Kong! Take your pick—from truss to cherry, it’s time to enjoy those creative tomato salads!
