This Week in Produce: Fruit Tingle Season Has Arrived

If we’re talking excitement levels on the seasonal nectar scale, this week is right up near the sticky, drippy top.
Cherries have kicked off, lychees are rolling in hot, and the humble apricot has stepped back into the spotlight like it never left.

Yep… fruit tingle bells are ringing.
Let’s dive in.

Apricots – Earlycots from the Murray, and They’re the Business

These Earlycuk apricots are coming straight from the sandy banks of the Murray River, and they are the way to start the season. I’ll level with you: they’re not the prettiest cots on the market—Magic Cots and Wondercots might win a beauty pageant—but none of them are eating like these right now.

A quick pro tip:

  • Leave them out of the fridge until they have a little give.

  • Once they soften, chill them only if you’re not eating them that day.

They’re at their peak when they’re slightly overripe, dripping, and tasting like an apricot should taste. Trust me—lean into the juice.

Lychees – Early, Pricey, and Too Good to Ignore

Our mate Brendo, the unofficial Lychee Baron of Australia, is making his early-season coin as usual. Supply is tight, prices are high… but the fruit is delivering in flavour and juice.

If you can hold out one week, prices should ease.
If you can’t wait—just know these early lychees are absolutely worth the splurge. Bring your purse and your lychee cravings.

Mango-Mania – Tree-Ripened Trouble (the Good Kind)

We’ve landed giant, tree-ripened Kensington Prides from a small growing region on the gulf road up to Katherine. These beauties are a sight for the eyes and a triple-X experience for your tastebuds—way better flavour than the big factory farms pumping out volume up the highway.

Dive in.
You may need a friend to help you finish one… or at least someone willing to get their hands a little sticky with you.

Melons – Cutting Like Fire

Watermelons and candy melons are absolutely humming.
Crisp. Sweet. Juicy.
If you’re grabbing fruit this week, don’t walk past a melon.

Stonefruit – Whites, Yellows, Reds… All Thriving

Whether you’re team peach or team nectarine, yellow or white, the stonefruit gods have flicked the switch to “ON.” Everything is cutting beautifully.

This week’s top picks:

  • White Nectarine

  • Yellow Peach

Consistently sweet, fragrant, and the type of fruit you plan to eat outdoors because you know it’s going to run down your wrist.
