What's Going On?

Fruit

This week really marks the transition from winter crops to summer crops, as the first box of cherries lands at the markets. I still think it’s a tad early in terms of eating quality, but we’ll taste them every day, and if they’re good, we’ll pop them up.

It’s the last pick for late navels before we move to the summer varieties—if you love oranges, make the most of it for sure, before Woolies and Coles slug you with Egyptian navels...

Well, Mr. Banana got a rise out of the team this week—massive love for the summer burst of bananas, and there’s plenty of fruit about next week too.

Okay, now to what you want to hear... it’s all good news really! Victorian berries are off to a flying start this week. Sensational eating strawberries are around, so make the most of these stunners! Blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries are all in decent form—get on them!

Stone fruit? Yep, we’re going to kick off! There’s a bunch of immature fruit about, so I’m going to start cautiously by just saying nectarines, and I’ll pick the best eating yellow or white on the day. I tasted some beauties today!

And yep, give the Mango-Man a go! There’s a heap of them around. I’m choosing sun-ripened Katherine mangoes, which are guaranteed to be delicious. Get on them!

Veg

Tomatoes from up north are drawing to a close, so give them a miss and go for grape, cherry truss, or cherry tomatoes instead of the bigger varieties.

Oxhearts are in great form—give them a whirl!

Cucumbers—baby, yeah, yeah, yeah! Make the most of a surge of these little beauties.

Other top picks: Simon’s bok choy, Steve’s baby beets, or Charlie’s kale—all stunning local picks this week.

You can’t beat ginger, shallots, and chilli with a crackling pork belly. Check out my tips below to light up the oven this week.

Oh, and I forgot a household fave... Broccolini! There’s lots of Victorian crop around, so definitely throw a couple of bunches in the mix.
