🥭 WEEKLY MARKET REPORT

Stone Fruit Season Begins, and Summer is in Sight!

🍑 White Nectarines – The Season Officially Begins

Without further ado, let this day be declared the start of Stone Fruit Season 2025!

Sure, there have been bits and bobs around for the past few weeks - but we know our job: to pick fruit that feeds the smile. Going early on peaches and nectarines is always a gamble - immature fruit that never ripens properly, or ripens unevenly to the core.

The wait is over. This year, the first cab off the rank that truly eats sensational comes from a small grower in Alstonville, NSW, with a stunning White Satin variety.

This one’s a clingstone nectarine - like most early-season varieties, it won’t segment cleanly, so it’s best enjoyed whole.
(Curious about the difference between clingstone and slipstone? Read more [here].)

What to expect:

  • Fragrant aroma, creamy sweetness, balanced acidity

  • Firm flesh that softens beautifully as it ripens

How to store:

  • Keep at room temperature until just soft to the touch

  • Refrigerate only once ripe - and eat within 2–3 days for peak flavour

🍍 Aussie Rough Pines – Sweet to the Core

Get them while you can - next week is the last for the Aussie Roughs, the best-eating pine around.

These golden, sweet-to-the-core pines hail from the Rolling Stones region in North Queensland. As we edge toward the NQ wet season, expect a short scarcity period before southern Queensland fruit from the Sunshine Coast and Glass House Mountains takes over.

Tip: Stock up next week - it’s your final chance for that true Queensland gold.

🥭 Mango Mania – Kensington Pride Season Hits

Nothing says summer like Kensington Pride Mangoes - Australia’s best-eating variety.

Right now, early-season fruit from Darwin is absolutely stunning, delivering that lush, tropical sweetness we all crave. This phase of the season brings out smaller growers, which means more distinct flavour profiles reflecting their growing regions and methods.

We’ve got about 1–2 weeks left of Darwin fruit before the Katherine region collides into the market - which might mean a few bargains ahead.

Stick with the small farms for now - their fruit ripens naturally on the tree, unlike supermarket mangoes that rely on gassing to condition fruit faster (but lose taste and shelf life).

🍊 What Else is Great Value This Week?

  • Mandarins: End-of-season Afourers from Renmark, SA are juicy, bright, and perfect for lunchboxes.

  • Other Fruit Picks:
    🍐 Corella Pears
    🍊 Mandarins
    🍍 Pineapples
    🍓 Strawberries
    🫐 Blueberries
    🍉 Watermelon
    🍑 White Nectarines

🍎 Crunch Time for Apples

Apple lovers, brace yourselves - it’s a tough finish this year.

Low flowering has led to smaller yields and smaller fruit. Expect tight supply and higher prices through November to January. It’s going to be an exy summer for apples.

🥬 Veg News

Best Local Bunches:

  • Kale

  • Mint

  • Rainbow Chard

  • Dutch Carrots

  • All Asian greens are thriving with spring’s warmth.

Lettuce Picks: Baby Cos & Iceberg
Tomato Picks: Cherry Truss - unbeatable for flavour and value right now.

🥑 Avin’ a Good Run

A perfect storm (in the best way) of Tablelands, Riverina, and WA fruit means avocados are having an epic run.

Now’s the time to load up - they’re creamy, rich, and excellent value.

🥔 Spud News

A rough end to the season for SA growers means a short-term shortage, expected to last 2–3 more weeks.

Best Value: Brushed spuds from Thorpdale
Best Eating: Royal Blues from Gawley River

🍠 Kumera Chaos – The Sweet Has Gone Sour

It’s official - we can’t call you “sweet potato” this month!

An unruly disease has hit one of Queensland’s biggest growers, throwing the market into disarray. For now, baby sweet potatoes are your best value, but expect a tough few weeks until NSW crops come online.
