It’s been a long walk between drinks for probably my favourite fruit of all time… the humble passionfruit.
These little beauties always fetch a pretty penny over summer, but the march into passion-ate times has officially begun.
We’ve got some absolutely cracking fruit landing this week — at half of last week’s prices… so yeah, things are getting juicy again.
Now, fair warning: there are some dud spuds floating about. Potatoes had an awful run a few months back, and just as growers thought they were seeing the light with the new crop maturing, SA copped a string of 40-degree scorchers that literally cooked the poor washed potatoes in the ground.
My pick? Desiree — reliable, skins have been more durable and always up for any job - roasting, mashing, boiling the all rounder.
Or if you’re looking to save a few dollars, there are some great brushed potatoes around this week too.
And finally… tomatoes. Nothing better than a sweet, ripe tomato at its absolute peak.
This week there are loads of cherry truss tomatoes about — proper little flavour bombs. Make the most of the value before everyone else catches on and drives the price back up.
Get in quick… the good stuff never hangs around for long
