🥟 How to Cut Parchment Paper for Steaming Dumplings (Basic Style) So they don't stick!

Nothing’s worse than beautifully steamed dumplings that glue themselves to the saucepan steamer. Here's how to stop the stick—with a neat little parchment trick.

✂️ What You’ll Need:

  • Parchment paper (regular baking paper)

  • Scissors

  • A pencil (optional)

  • Your pan or steamer basket

  • A little oil (optional, but helps with golden bases)

🔄 Method: The Fold-and-Trim Circle Trick

  1. Tear off a sheet of parchment paper
Make sure it’s larger than the bottom of your pan or steamer basket.

  1. Fold the parchment into a square
Fold the rectangle into a square (trim if needed). Then fold diagonally into a triangle. Keep folding the triangle in half until it’s a skinny wedge (like a pizza slice).

  1. Measure and trim
Place the tip of the triangle into the centre of your pan. Where the outer edge hits the rim, snip across—this will give you the radius of your pan and create a round piece when unfolded.

  1. Add steam holes (for steamers)
If you’re steaming dumplings, cut a few small notches, small triangke shapes will work, along the folded edges to create holes in the paper to allow steam to circulate.

  1. Place parchment in your steamer (bamboo or metal)
Unfold the paper, smooth it down flat in your steamer, then arrange your dumplings on top. No more tearing or wrestling to get them out later!

🧠 Bonus Tips:

  • Reusable idea: You can keep reuse it a few times if it’s still in good shape.
